Want the best seat in town? Head to Broome Golf Club, just minutes from Habitat Resort, where you’ll find unobstructed panoramic views, live music, and dining specials during Staircase nights. It’s one of the most magical places to experience this lunar event.

Celebrate the spirit of the north through the eyes of its most talented regional artists at Art Above the 26th — a group exhibition showcasing bold, thought-provoking works created above Australia’s 26th parallel.
This inspiring collection highlights the stories, landscapes, and cultural voices of northern Australia, offering a unique window into life beyond the usual gallery scene. Expect striking visual art in a range of mediums — from painting and sculpture to multimedia — all reflecting the strength, resilience, and diversity of remote artists and communities.

Get ready for two unforgettable weeks as Shinju Matsuri, Broome’s iconic Festival of the Pearl, returns from 23rd August to 7th September 2025. This vibrant celebration honours the town’s rich multicultural heritage—rooted in Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Filipino, Koepanger, and Aboriginal cultures that shaped Broome’s historic pearling industry.
Now in its 50+ year legacy, the festival bursts to life with colorful parades, floating lanterns, live music, culinary feasts, art exhibitions, and community events that bring Broome’s unique spirit to the forefront. From the glamour of the Shinju Opening Ball to the beauty of the Sunset Long Table Dinner, every moment is infused with culture, connection, and creativity. If you’re a first-time visitor or a long-time local, Shinju Matsuri invites you to experience the color, flavor, and history that make Broome so special. It’s more than just a festival—it’s a heartfelt celebration of the people, stories, and shared legacy of this remarkable coastal town.

Saturday 23 August – Opening Ceremony & Ball
Start the festival in style at Town Beach from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with the Northside Rentals Opening Ceremony, featuring a Yawuru Welcome to Country, official speeches, and the traditional Waking of Sammy the Dragon. Later that evening, dress in your best pearls and circus-inspired glam for the Shinju Opening Ball: Circus Masquerade from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Festival Hub. Enjoy dinner, drinks, live music, and dancing under the stars.
Sunday 24 August – Float Parade & Carnival of Nations
From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the streets come alive with the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade, showcasing creative community floats around the theme “The colourful, pearling capital of Broome.” Stick around for the Carnival of Nations at Male Oval from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM—a cultural celebration with live performances, food stalls, and a family-friendly vibe.
Tuesday 26 August – Pets in the Park
Bring your pets to the Festival Hub at Town Beach from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for a fun and relaxed afternoon. From best-dressed to best trick, there are prizes for all kinds of furry, feathered, or scaled companions.
Wednesday 27 August – Senior Citizens Morning Tea
Join the community at the Broome Civic Centre from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for tea, scones, local entertainment, and a preview of the Shinju Matsuri Art Awards Exhibition.
Friday 29 August – Chinatown Feast
From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, head to Short Street in Chinatown for an atmospheric hawker-style dining event. Sample dishes from Broome’s best food vendors while enjoying roving performers and live music. Tickets are $85 and include access to the evening’s full entertainment lineup.
Sunday 31 August – Floating Lantern Matsuri
Gather at Gantheaume Beach from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM for one of the festival’s most beautiful traditions. Lantern kits are $20 and can be purchased ahead of time. Bring the family and be part of this peaceful, reflective ceremony by the sea.
Monday 1 September onwards – Art Awards Exhibition
The Shinju Matsuri Art Awards officially open on 1 September, with the public exhibition running from 2–7 September at the Broome Civic Centre. Entry is free, and you’ll have the chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award and even purchase original local artworks.
Friday 5 September – Sand ’n Sounds
Kick off the final weekend at Cable Beach from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a chic, beachside event. Enjoy cocktails, a canape menu, and top DJs under the stars. Dress code is cool & classy—shoes optional! (18+ event.)
Saturday 6 September – Long Table Dinner
A signature Shinju event, the Sunset Long Table Dinner on Cable Beach runs from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Enjoy a locally inspired menu, entertainment, and dancing under the Kimberley night sky. Tickets are $299 and sell quickly—book early!
Sunday 7 September – Festival Finale
Close out the festival at Town Beach from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the Shinju Festival Finale. Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy food markets, live performances, and a farewell to Sammy the Dragon, wrapping up 16 days of colour, culture, and community.
