Shinju Matsuri Festival originated from three cultural festivals, including Japanese Obon Matsuri, Malaysian Hari Merdeka, and the Chinese Hang Seng. This multicultural legacy, combined with the contributions of local Aboriginal people and Europeans, saw up to 400 Pearling Luggers sailing out of Broome.
