Jan 2023 Flood update and Broome holidays

So what is happening in the Kimberley after all the recent rainfall events??

I have been receiving lots of enquiries through phone calls, email and social media about what happened to Broome and what is the state of things after the rain.  We thought we would put this post together to give everyone an explanation of the state of play in the Kimberley at the moment.

Firstly, to get it out of the way, Broome is ok and relatively unaffected.  Broome had very little damage, lots of rain and a few trees fell over but nothing compared to the central Kimberley. 

Broome is open for holidays

The roads from Perth to Broome are open, food is getting Broome and we are getting lots of guests coming up for the Tropical Summer Holidays. People are getting great accommodation specials such as our Stay and Pay deals, and enjoying the Tropical summer in Broome.

If you are heading north, the Dampier Peninsula is pretty accessible as the road was bitumised two years ago and is all weather.

Main Areas affected – Fitzroy Cross and Northern Highway around Willare Roadhouse

The best way to stay abreast of what has happened in these areas is the facebook page – Main Roads WA in the Kimberley where Main Roads is already outlining options of how they are going to re-open the Great Northern Highway and how they are already starting works.

There is good reason to be confident that there will be suitable plans in place for the Dry Season.  It looks as though supplies will all start to get through, and tours and other activities will be going ahead, possible with some minor itinerary changes.   Note that Main Roads have said that the Gibb River road damage is a lot less than they thought.

The Kimberley is open, especially Broome and waiting for you to come for holidays.  Come now for the Tropical Summer Season and get some great off peak specials and enjoy the slightly less severe tropical storms that we are having now.
