About Us
History
Habitat Resort was envisioned more than 13 years ago, when Broome was only starting to establish itself as a nationally major tourism destination. The site for a garden resort was chosen based on the location adjacent to the golf club and surrounding crown land. Habitat was born as a low density, spacious, garden resort that was not imaginable in the high density, crowded area of Cable Beach.
The first Habitat garden kept many of the original native plants while also importing a wonderful collection of exotic tropical plants. The Broome style bungalows buildings were designed in a layout that complements the garden and provides a wonderful sense of privacy and intimacy with the natural environment. Michael and Jane Leake have been managing the resort for the last 7 years and under their guidance, the gardens have grown and evolved providing much enjoyment to our guests. The resort’s unique design has seen Habitat Resort acknowledged with state tourism awards in each of the last 4 years.
The indulgent gardens at Habitat Resort are the only resort gardens in the Kimberley based on the philosophy of a touch, taste, smell and feel garden. The success of the gardens can be seen by the wonderful wildlife that chooses to share the gardens with the guests from the abundant green tree frogs to the friendly, waving Tata lizards. It is a garden to be experienced with all your senses, not just looked at. Let yourself go and relax, refresh and enjoy in our oasis gardens of the Kimberley.
Why stay at Habitat Resort Broome
When you arrive in Broome you are at the gateway to the Kimberley, the numerous gorges, Horizontal Falls and Cape Leveque on the coast and the home of the Pearling Industry in Australia. Broome has an abundant living history, with its cosmopolitan and sometimes brutal background, with a rich and vibrant arts and music scene. There is the beautiful Cable Beach and the fauna rich Roebuck Bay. Broome is a place of many faces that needs to be experienced, not just observed.
